Collecting Fabric

A friend of mine was grousing about how much fabric she had bought over the weekend and that she felt she must be sick because of what she had done.  I thought about it for a very short time, and this is my theory:

I used to think that buying more fabric than you need was weird and unnecessary and wasteful.  Certainly, there was no way that I could ever use all of it, and there are always new and better designs available, so it would be silly to buy too much in advance, because by the time I was ready to use it, better fabrics would be available and I would want them. But I no longer think that way!

I collect Santas, antiques, antique linens, teddy bears, quilts, sewing tools (new
and old) hand painted china, and fabric.  Some of the things get used, and
some of them just sit on shelves and get looked at.  Some of them don't see the light of day because I don't want them to fade.  Some of them appreciate in value the longer I have them, and some will be sold at a garage sale for $1/lb if that, but that's ok, because I will have enjoyed all of my collections while I am here, and to hell with what my kids think when they have to have the big yard
sale!

PS.  I also collect thread, and I really used to think that was crazy,
but now I don’t!
